In some ways, preaching is a lot like being a pilot. It takes a lot of time in and out of the cockpit to become a successful pilot. Many hours of study are spent preparing and maintaining one’s knowledge with respect to flying. Additionally, a pilot needs to fly regularly to keep his skills sharp.
Preachers get into the cockpit (or as we call it, the pulpit) weekly to preach. However, just like a pilot, a good preacher will spend many hours in study before he “takes off” each week and presents lessons from God’s Word.
